  1. These are they who buy the life of this world for the hereafter, so their chastisement shall not be lightened nor shall they be helped.

  2. Abiding in it; their chastisement shall not be lightened nor shall they be given respite.

  3. O you who believe! retaliation is prescribed for you in the matter of the slain, the free for the free, and the slave for the slave, and the female for the female, but if any remission is made to any one by his (aggrieved) brother, then prosecution (for the bloodwit) should be made according to usage, and payment should be made to him in a good manner; this is an alleviation from your Lord and a mercy; so whoever exceeds the limit after this he shall have a painful chastisement.

  4. Abiding in it; their chastisement shall not be lightened nor shall they be respited.

  5. Allah desires that He should make light your burdens, and man is created weak.

  6. And as for him whose measure (of good deeds) is light those are they who have made their souls suffer loss because they disbelieved in Our communications.

  7. He it is Who created you from a single being, and of the same (kind) did He make his mate, that he might incline to her; so when he covers her she bears a light burden, then moves about with it; but when it grows heavy, they both call upon Allah, their Lord: If Thou givest us a good one, we shall certainly be of the grateful ones.

  8. For the present Allah has made light your burden, and He knows that there is weakness in you; so if there are a hundred patient ones of you they shall overcome two hundred, and if there are a thousand they shall overcome two thousand by Allah's permission, and Allah is with the patient.

  9. Go forth light and heavy, and strive hard in Allah's way with your property and your persons; this is better for you, if you know.

  10. And Allah has given you a place to abide in your houses, and He has given you tents of the skins of cattle which you find light to carry on the day of your march and on the day of your halting, and of their wool and their fur and their hair (He has given you) household stuff and a provision for a time.

  11. And when those who are unjust shall see the chastisement, it shall not be lightened for them, nor shall they be respited. .

  12. And as for him whose good deeds are light, these are they who shall have lost their souls, abiding in hell

  13. Therefore be patient; surely the promise of Allah is true and let not those who have no certainty hold you in light estimation.

  14. And (as for) those who disbelieve, for them is the fire of hell; it shall not be finished with them entirely so that they should die, nor shall the chastisement thereof be lightened to them: even thus do We retribute every ungrateful one.

  15. And those who are in the fire shall say to the keepers of hell: Call upon your Lord that He may lighten to us one day of the punishment.

  16. So he incited his people to levity and they obeyed him: surely they were a transgressing people.
