Appears 12 times in the Quran.

  1. And they shall be brought before your Lord, standing in ranks: Now certainly you have come to Us as We created you at first. Nay, you thought that We had not appointed to you a time of the fulfillment of the promise.

  2. Therefore settle your plan, then come standing in ranks and he will prosper indeed this day who overcomes.

  3. And (as for) the camels, We have made them of the signs of the religion of Allah for you; for you therein is much good; therefore mention the name of Allah on them as they stand in a row, then when they fall down eat of them and feed the poor man who is contented and the beggar; thus have We made them subservient to you, that you may be grateful.

  4. Do you not see that Allah is He Whom do glorify all those who are in the heavens and the earth, and the (very) birds with expanded wings? He knows the prayer of each one and its glorification, and Allah is Cognizant of what they do.

  5. I swear by those who draw themselves out in ranks

  6. And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks,

  7. Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones.

  8. Surely Allah loves those who fight in His way in ranks as if they were a firm and compact wall.

  9. Have they not seen the birds above them expanding (their wings) and contracting (them)? What is it that withholds them save the Beneficent Allah? Surely He sees everything.

  10. The day on which the spirit and the angels shall stand in ranks; they shall not speak except he whom the Beneficent Allah permits and who speaks the right thing.

  11. And cushions set in a row,

  12. And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks,
