  1. And when Musa prayed for drink for his people, We said: Strike the rock with your staff So there gushed from it twelve springs; each tribe knew its drinking place: Eat and drink of the provisions of Allah and do not act corruptly in the land, making mischief.

  2. Then your hearts hardened after that, so that they were like rocks, rather worse in hardness; and surely there are some rocks from which streams burst forth, and surely there are some of them which split asunder so water issues out of them, and surely there are some of them which fall down for fear of Allah, and Allah is not at all heedless of what you do.

  3. It is made lawful to you to go into your wives on the night of the fast; they are an apparel for you and you are an apparel for them; Allah knew that you acted unfaithfully to yourselves, so He has turned to you (mercifully) and removed from you (this burden); so now be in contact with them and seek what Allah has ordained for you, and eat and drink until the whiteness of the day becomes distinct from the blackness of the night at dawn, then complete the fast till night, and have not contact with them while you keep to the mosques; these are the limits of Allah, so do not go near them. Thus does Allah make clear His communications for men that they may guard (against evil).

  4. Keep up prayer from the declining of the sun till the darkness of the night and the morning recitation; surely the morning recitation is witnessed.

  5. And they say: We will by no means believe in you until you cause a fountain to gush forth from the earth for us.

  6. Or you should have a garden of palms and grapes in the midst of which you should cause rivers to flow forth, gushing out.

  7. Both these gardens yielded their fruits, and failed not aught thereof, and We caused a river to gush forth in their midst,

  8. O you who believe! let those whom your right hands possess and those of you who have not attained to puberty ask permission of you three times; before the morning prayer, and when you put off your clothes at midday in summer, and after the prayer of the nightfall; these are three times of privacy for you; neither is it a sin for you nor for them besides these, some of you must go round about (waiting) upon others; thus does Allah make clear to you the communications, and Allah is Knowing, Wise.

  9. And We make therein gardens of palms and grapevines and We make springs to flow forth in it,

  10. Shall We treat those who believe and do good like the mischief-makers in the earth? Or shall We make those who guard (against evil) like the wicked?

  11. And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained.

  12. For surely if Thou leave them they will lead astray Thy servants, and will not beget any but immoral, ungrateful (children)

  13. Nay! man desires to give the lie to what is before him.

  14. A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth.

  15. These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked.

  16. And when the seas are made to flow forth,

  17. And most surely the wicked are in burning fire,

  18. Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjin.

  19. I swear by the daybreak,

  20. Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it;

  21. Peace! it is till the break of the morning.
